The Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Vocational Education and Training (hereafter - the Centre) was established in 1995 as the central institution responsible for vocational education and training in Slovenia. It is a public institution and was founded by the government of the Republic of Slovenia (the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs), co-founded along with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Crafts.

The Slovene VET system reflecting the demands of various stakeholders need a central, core institution that can, co-ordinate and assist all the activities within vocational education and training (policy makers, administrators, social partners, teachers and students) and to develop, monitor and constantly improve the VET system as a complex mechanism.

With its developmental, professional and advisory functions the Centre actively participates in formulating the fundamental objectives of VET in Slovenia.

The main activities are : analysing the labour market and occupational profiles, determining educational needs and developmental trends ; developing guidelines for occupational profiles and standards, preparing competence-based occupational standards and curricula, preparing catalogues of knowledge and skills for certification of NVQ (validation of experiences), organisation of the in-service teacher training, elaboration of projects of school equipment, textbook publication, information-communication technology for school-.based and on-the-job training, ...
